I think it is a great testament to Oakland that there are so many Pi Day celebrations happening this Saturday. Oaklanders can be nerdy…and we like pie. That is totally the kind of place I am proud to call home. So, if you are as fond of pie as we are, we suggest you get out this weekend and celebrate as much as possible. Here’s how:

  • Make some Pi inspired art at the Museum of Children’s Arts. On Saturdays at MOCHA they have open studio hours from 10am-1pm, and this Saturday is all about Pi. Bring your little ones and for $7 their imaginations can run wild with crafts and activities all inspired by this awesome number.

  • Head over to American Steel Studios for “The Science Of Art-guided tour”.  American Steel Studios is the country’s largest industrial art warehouse, is located in West Oakland, and is home to over 180 artists and entrepreneurs. They do a monthly tour of their facilities every 2nd Saturday of the month. Which happens to perfectly fall on Pi Day. This tour will highlight some of the artists at American Steel who’s work is infused with science and math. Space is limited so RSVP at: tours@americansteelstudios.com.

  • Eat some pizza at any of the incredible places on This List:  Pi Day wouldn’t be Pi Day without pizza. While none of these places specifically are advertising a Pi Day event, getting a slice of pie from any one of them is an excellent way to celebrate.

Fun Fact about this year’s Pi Day. Because it is 2015, the date will be the first 5 digits of pi instead of just 3; a date that only comes around every 100 years. Even more reason to celebrate! Have fun out there nerds. ;)
