Oakland’s Grand Lake Theatre offers a grand movie viewing experience. Built in 1927, the theatre opened as a vaudeville show and silent movie house. Eventually, talking pictures (called “talkies”) became popular and took the stage. The Grand Lake Theatre holds a distinct and special custom, on Friday and Saturday evening performances, their Mighty Wurlitzer Organ is played for 10 or so minutes prior to the movie.
Today, the theatre still maintains it’s grand splendor of the 20’s with it’s exterior marquis and interior Moorish and Egyptian style, and balcony seating.
