We are so late to this party, but we have finally joined! We have been dying to try out Hog’s Apothecary since it opened in 2013 and failed to so until now, and boy are we so glad we did.
Given it’s location and all the hype surrounding the pub, there was a little trepidation about the possibility of snobbish hipsterness abounding. However, we couldn’t have been more wrong. Now, does it have some hipsterness? Of course. Is it snobby? Hells no. Our waitress was knowledgable and kind and both the menu and beer list were easy to read and full of local fare. There were three of us and we each tried a beer or two and with 40 beers and a variety of wine on tap, there was something for everyone.

Now to the food. We ordered the New York New York, the Chinese Rocks, and the Heifer and the Sow. We went for lunch so each dish came with the option of a salad or chips on the side as well as a few pickled veggies. The salad was simple but fantastically dressed and complimented the dishes well. The Chinese Rocks was probably the least popular among the group, but that’s really because the other two were just so exceptional, but in it’s own right the Chinese-style sausage was full of flavor and was perfectly cooked. I personally had the New York, New York, and while it was too large for me to finish all on my own, it was fantastic. It is certainly a meat heavy sandwich, but it’s not overwhelming as the saurkraut and special sauce stand out. Lastly, the Heifer and the Sow burger rocked our socks. I mean, bacon on a burger is delicious; pork belly on a burger takes it to a whole other level. If you are craving a burger, this is an excellent choice.

Basically there isn’t much to sum up. Hog’s Apothecary lives up to the hype as a chill, delicious, neighborhood eatery. Go there, you won’t be sorry.
