
In the spirit of Thanksgiving we wanted to give you information about the food banks and soup kitchens that you can give back to this holiday season. We are so grateful that we get to live in this incredible place and take part in all it has to offer.
5 ways you can give back this holiday season:
1. Volunteer or donate to the Alameda Food Bank
Where: 1900 Thau Way, Alameda, CA 94501
What: Toys for Tots drive December
Donate food: Beef Stew, Canned Fruit, Chili with Beef, Canned Tuna, Canned Corn, and Rice are the recommended donations. You can drop non-expired non-perishable items off at their office or at red donation barrels around town.
Where: 920 Peralta Street Oakland, CA 94607
What: Donate Turkeys, Toys, or Food to the West Oakland food bank for the upcoming holidays.
3. Volunteer for a “Special Event” day with Covenant House California
Where: 200 Harrison Street, Oakland, CA 94607
What: Generally volunteers are requested to make a 3 month commitment with Covenant House but they do have more “Special Events” during the holidays that allow you to serve the Homeless Youth of East Oakland. Call them for more information at: 510-379-1008
4. Volunteer on a Friday or Saturday with AFS at their Foster Youth Holiday Funtastic event
Where: 401 Roland Way, #100 Oakland, CA 94621
What: Volunteer to set up and manage different stations at the annual holiday event for foster children in Oakland.
5. Do a Holiday Adopt-Family through Alameda Social Services
Where: 2000 San Pablo Ave, Oakland CA 94612
What: Adopt a family for Christmas and give gifts to children in need. The price range is $25-50 per child and is a great way to help someone have a special holiday.
