The Golden State Warriors are off to an exciting start, and since we are going through some serious baseball withdrawals here at LLO, we decided it was time to get behind our blue and gold boys. And what better way to do that than with…you guessed it, a list! So here you go, 5 reasons everyone should go to a Warriors game this year.

The Warriors new head coach Steve Kerr has taken over for Mark Jackson this year and brings along the kind of play and coaching experience that works well with this group of athletes. Kerr played for two of the best modern day basketball coaches in the nation, Gregg Popovich and Phil Jackson.  He is a players’ coach and will work to bring out the best in each player individually, hopefully bringing them even closer as a team.

They have players like Andrew Bogut and David Lee who can both go inside allowing the team to play stand up offense, or they can play the high post and become passers opening up the defense. But they also have faster, smaller forwards like Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green who allow them to pick up the speed of the game and play small when needed. Because of the variety of style of play, it gives the team options on how they approach their opponents, which makes them fun and exciting to watch.

images-14.) The Splash and Smash Brothers. Mighty Ducks references aside, you’ve got to admit those are pretty great nicknames. The “Splash Brothers”, Stephan Curry and Klay Thompson, are known for their 3-point “splashes”. They have the ability to light it up on any given night, and when they do it is a thing of beauty. This is allowed by the “Smash Brothers” (ok I made that one up…but they needed a name too!)  Bogut and Lee, along with Green and “Mo Buckets” (Speights), to take the inside lanes, post up, and draw in the defense, leaving the splash brothers free to do their thing.

images-25.) The Bandwagon. The Warriors have only won 1 championship since being on the West coast and they did it in 1975 with Rick Barry. The time is here. With exciting players, a new coach, and getting off to a strong 14-2 start, the Warriors have the opportunity to use that momentum through the season and hopefully towards history. How fun would it be to say that you went to a game during their first championship season in almost 40 years?

…You too could be a hipster. (Ok, ok, maybe that’s pushing it a little too far. But really, you should go.)
