With all this hot weather, we have been looking for anything to help cool us down. And what could be better than deliciously cool ice cream on a hot day? Oakland has incredible ice cream of many different varieties and we have chosen 5 of our favorite places we head for creamy goodness.

1.) Curbside Creamery

If you are looking to please a crowd, this is a great place to do it. They serve both vegan and regular ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, soft-serve, pie a la mode, and freshly made waffle cones. Oh right, and it’s all phenomenal. Our personal preference is to head here after dinner and sit under the twinkling lights in Temescal Alley with friends and family…but it’s good at all times.

2.) Fenton’s

Fenton’s is classic Oakland ice cream. Growing up, it was the ultimate place for birthday parties as a kid, and their creamy flavors are scrumptious. Also, you can sit on the curb in front and pretend your in Up!

3.) Cream

Cream is definitely the new kid in Oakland, but they have really just come over from Berkeley. They do fantastic ice cream sandwiches in a wide variety of freshly-baked cookies. Most likely you will find a line out the door on the weekends, but it moves fast and the music is great.

4.) Tara’s Organic Ice Cream

Tara’s is a great staple in both Temescal and Rockridge and is an easy way to avoid the long lines that can form at Cream and Curbside. They made their waffle cones fresh and all of their ingredients are organic and phenomenal. They also have vegan options that are fantastic.

5.) Smitten Ice Cream

Smitten Ice Cream in Rockridge is like going to an exploratorium and getting an ice cream all at once. Smitten makes each order in front of you using liquid nitrogen and science! Their flavors change with the season and are creative and delicious.

Hope you are all staying cool out there and are excited for some delicious ice cream!
