Yeah, yeah, we’re jumping on the bandwagon. But it’s only because you totally should too! Shakewell on Lakeshore Avenue has finally opened and to much acclaim. The basics: 1.) It was opened by two Top Chef alums who have worked in some fantastic Bay eateries.  2.) They serve Mediterranean/Spanish inspired fare that is mostly cooked in a custom-made, wood-fired oven. (A trend, yes. But a trend we whole-heartedly support.) 3.) It’s delicious.

One of the greatest parts of Shakewell for me is how well managed it is already. The staff is knowledgeable about everything from the food to the mission of the restaurant. …Ask the bartenders about the drinks or the beer; they know so much about what they have and what is going on locally, it’s a fun conversation. The service is efficient but not rushed so it makes for a casual and jovial atmosphere. And of course, the food is great. The menu is ever changing with the seasons and what’s available; but I would recommend trying one of the bombas, a wood fired rice dish that is the anchor of the menu. Also, if the squash blossoms are on the menu they are definitely a must, not only are they beautiful but they are tasty! Lastly, the deserts are fantastic. The churros are very popular and the chocolate dipping sauce they come with is scrumptious, but you truly can’t go wrong with any of them.

The point is, chalk up another point to the Grand Lake area; Shakewell is another fun and delicious neighborhood hang out and we are so glad they’re here!
