There is a somewhat new and notable kid on the block on Grand Avenue in Oakland. Monkey Forest Road opened in November 2011 with hopes to lure in coffee fiends and art friends. Done and done. Their edible goods include pastries with not commonly seen ingredients (cardamom pear muffin anyone?) that also happen to be incredibly yummy ingredients. Let’s not to mention their new afternoon treats like wine and beer! Their wine bar is now open from Thursdays through Saturdays from 5 – 10pm. There is no going wrong here!
The coffee (Verve, from Santa Cruz) is painstakingly prepared and served alongside unique baked goods. The art and furniture are imported from Southeast Asia (mostly from Bali). These items are exquisite and exquisitely priced. Don’t miss their jewelry and decor accessories (more mid-range priced).
