Well, it’s that time of year again. The school year is upon us and it feels like the summer is winding down. Even the weather this week has felt more fall like! So, whether you are getting to put your little ones into kindergarden, or you are living vicariously through those college students returning to their various campuses, we have 5 ideas to get you back in the school state of mind.

1.) Go on an outdoor adventure-

Whether it is hiking among the redwoods, kayaking on the estuary, or sliding down the cement slide at Codornices park, this is the time to take advantage of the incredible environment we have here in the East Bay and to oxygenate  those lungs and brains.

2.) Get some Oaklandish gear-

You can’t go back to school without representing the awesomeness that is Oakland. They have great shirts and sweatshirts with the new Bay Bridge or of course the Oaklandish tree in almost every configuration.

3.) Get a Library Card

The Oakland Library system has so many great locations which are good for studying or getting away from it all. They also have e-books for check out so you can extend summer fun reading into the fall. It is also a great place to take little ones for story time or to find books that ignite their imagination.

4.) Sign up for a physical activity-

In anticipation of sitting in a classroom (or behind a desk) more now that fall is encroaching upon us, give your body a chance to move around, de-stress, and get rid of toxins while doing something fun! Whether it’s a group sport like soccer or softball, or something more individual like yoga or dance after school/work activities are a great way to get back into the swing of school and fall!

5.) Go get some awesome ice cream-

Nothing says summer like ice cream on a hot day. So why not try to squeeze every last bit of summer out by visiting one of Oakland’s many incredible ice creameries. Whether it’s the classic like Fenton’s or the new kid like Smitten grab a cone with friends and family and enjoy the last dog days of summer.
