2015 is going to be a great year for Oakland. There are so many things to look forward to from new restaurants, to cultural events and so much more. We can’t wait to get out there and be a part of as much as possible! Here are 5 things we can’t wait for in 2015:
1. Oakland Ballet’s 50th Anniversary Season
The Oakland Ballet is turning 50 this year and is celebrating with a 2-part performance covering Five Decades of Dance. The first part of the evening will consist of classical highlights from Oakland Ballet’s repetoire including the beautiful Scheherazade and the pas de deux from The Secret Garden by founding artistic director Ronn Guidi. The second part of the performance brings back the ballet’s esteemed alumni to create a new short work to celebrate the company’s past and future including choreography from Alonzo King and Michael Lowe. This is a great way to support the arts in Oakland while celebrating it’s history.
Restaurant week is almost here and it is the best excuse to try some of the restaurants that have peaked your curiosity over the last year. With pre-fixed menus between $20-$40, it’s definitely worth a reservation or two.
3. The Oakland Running Festival
Early on the morning of March 22nd hundreds of runners will embark on a journey through Oakland. And it will be a party. The races range from a kids fun run, to a 5k, to a full marathon that circles around most of Oakland. It is such a great way for a community to come together and cheer for people outside their homes…or even head down to the finish line and celebrate with the athletes.
4. The Warriors winning a championship?
How cool would that be? They definitely seem to be on track to make a run for it. Thompson and Curry aren’t slowing down and Steve Kerr has shown himself to be a great steward of the team. The Warriors team shows themselves to be worthy competitors for the title every time they step on the court.
Dance week is a whole lot of fun and a great way to be introduced to the Bay Area/ Oakland dance community. With a myriad of free events and dance classes, along with discounted performances from some of the best companies in the area, this is definitely not an event to miss.
What are you looking forward to this year? We hope it’s your best yet!
